The last of the 2008 GDPU / SYHA weekends was recently held at Braemar SYHA hostel.

The weekend weather looked promising but as the first night was to be Halloween, it was not known if any spirits would rise up. As the hours ticked away on the Friday evening, a strange event took place that let us see what some of our members do at weekends! The happy couple then flew off into the night and re-appeared as alleged photographers the next day.

The next few days were ones of spectacular photography as the weather gave us sun, snow capped peaks and full autumn colours. The nights were a bit chilly -5, but the brave lads and lassies of the group still managed to stoke up their internal warmth.
Some were even treated to a great sunset at Loch Morlich.

The Lecht Ski Slope was well attended as the first snows of the season fell.
There were some spectacular shots of Corgaff Castle, but no one managed to visit the castle as the snow was a bit deep.
Many of the group visited new area such as Linn O Dee, Balmoral Castle, and the new Tiger enclosure at the Highland Wildlife Park. (Unfortunately the staff would not take some escapees) Other areas visited included Ballater, Aviemore / Cairngorm's and quite a number braved the Tomintoul / Cock Bridge road!
All in all, a good time was had by all.

The first of the 2009 GDPU / SYHA weekend is to be held on Skye at the Uig hostel 27 February / 2 March. Bookings are now being taken, so to avoid any disappointment book up early.
Booking forms and further details are available from the GDPU web site under weekend outings.
